HECKLER & KOCH INTRODUCES MP7 PDW

The HK MP7 and the 4.6x30mm family of high performance ammunition were developed to provide penetration and lethality approaching that of an assault rifle in a package small and portable enough to be carried like a handgun. Adopted and fielded by the German special operations unit “KSK” in 2002, the MP7 is now available to US military and law enforcement organizations. The small, lightweight MP7 (less than 4 pounds loaded) is capable of penetrating modern body armor, including that of the former Soviet Bloc Special Forces, not the standard NATO test target. The MP7 can be fired with one or two hands or from the shoulder by using the sturdy retractable buttstock. It handles like a pistol yet allows targets to be engaged like a rifle. A folding vertical foregrip allows the weapon to be fired with excellent controllability to increase hit probably at all ranges. With its 7-inch barrel; the MP7 is capable of firing 10-shot semiautomatic groups of less than 2 inches at 45 meters. The MP7 is gas-operated and fires from a closed bolt using a rotary locking bolt system. All operating controls, including the M16-style cocking handle, safety/selector lever, magazine release and bolt catch/release are fully ambidextrous. Constructed mostly of carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer with embedded metal components where needed, the weapon can be field stripped in seconds without tools and requires little cleaning due to the unique gas system employed in the design. The weapon features a cyclic rate of 950 rpm and fires from either a 20- or 40-round detachable box-type magazine. It also features a full-length MIL-STD-1913 rail interface for the attachment of a wide variety of sighting devices. LEUPOLD INTRODUCES SCOPE-MOUNTED BALLISTIC CHART

Leupold’s new retractable scope-mounted chart allows instant access to custom ballistics data. Now part of the company’s 2003 ScopeSmith® tools and accessories line, the new chart fits all Leupold and other scope brands which have 1-inch or 30mm main tubes. The new chart eliminates guesswork and, because it makes critical ballistics data available from any shooting position, it could even prove a lifesaver in tactical crisis situations. Easy-to-use, the new ballistic chart uses a spring-loaded mechanism, which automatically retracts after use (similar to a standard measuring tape). When pulled out, the “shooter’s side” of the tape provides a durable white-coated steel surface (half an inch wide by ten inches long) for recording ballistics data for various ranges and loads. The tape’s “target side” is dull black so it will not give away the shooter’s position. Data can be inscribed using a ballpoint or “Sharpie”-type pen. The new retractable ballistic chart comes complete with its own mounting ring and can be attached quickly without having to remove the scope. Both the 1-inch and 30mm models have a suggested retail price of $44.60. For more information contact Leupold & Stevens, Inc., Dept. SAR, P.O. Box 688, Beaverton, Ore. 97075; phone: 1-503-526-1400; fax: 1-503-526-1475; website: www.leupold.com.

PENTAX INTRODUCES NEW LASER RANGEFINDERS

Pentax, USA Inc., has just introduced three new fully waterproof angle compensating laser rangefinders, the AC500WP, the AC800WP and the AC1000WP. These rangefinders are available in 500-yard, 800-yard and 1,000-yard waterproof models. All three models feature an easy-to-hold, ergonomic design and are perfect companions in all weather conditions. The superior technology of the AC500WP, AC800WP and AC100WP provides the correct yardage distance when shooting at an upward or downward angle. Line-of-sight rangefinders will typically cause you to overshoot your target, while these three models give the proper distance to hit a target every time. These new rangefinders can be used in the angle-compensating or line-of-sight modes in all weather conditions. Precise, single beam laser technology offers improved accuracy over multi-beam units and provides consistently accurate readings when ranging a vertical object such as a tree or fencepost. The ACWP rangefinders offer easy operation in either non-reflective or reflective modes. The ranging laser is not activated until the trigger button is released, preventing the rangefinder from reading an incorrect object. Data is displayed on an easy-to-read internal LCD “Heads-Up” Display. This includes the aiming sight signal strength, range, battery strength and ambient air temperature. Each model provides distance resolution three times greater than comparable models. They provide accurate measurements down to 12 feet, compared to 54 feet on competitive brands. Each rangefinder is user-programmable, providing units of measurements in either feet, yards or meters. All models feature a new compact and lightweight design and are available in either a black or camouflage finish. All models include a case and strap and run on a single 9-volt battery. Best of all they are all made in the USA. For more information contact Pentax USA Inc., Dept.
